Acne Myths and Facts

Day 336 / 365 - Enormous Pustule

Acne can be a very stressful and depressing condition for anyone. One problem that younger people seem to suffer with is other people spreading the well known acne myths around, and blaming these myths for your acne. Many of the acne myths are not true but people still choose to tease acne sufferers with them.

For these of you who are unaware of what the main acne myths are, here you go:

Myth #1: Acne is caused by bad hygiene.
Many people still believe this myth is true and scrub their face either too much or far too hard. Scrubbing your face too hard or too often can actually aggravate your acne and make the problem worse. The best way to clean your face is to do it twice a day with mild soap, and pat your face dry when you are finished. When using the mild soap, wash your face gently.

Myth #2: Acne is caused by bad diet.
Even though bad diet can contribute to acne, it is not a direct cause. Food does not cause the problem directly, but if someone already suffers with acne then bad diet could worsen the problem.

Myth #3: Popping your pimples is the fastest cure.
Popping your pimple may seem like a good idea at the time, but it usually comes back to bite you! Popping a pimple can cause the infection to spread further and cause more pimples to appear. So resist your urge to pop that pimple, and cover it instead!

Myth #4: Makeup causing acne.
Makeup is not the direct cause of acne, although if someone suffers with bad acne then they may find that their makeup can worsen the problem. If you suffer with acne then the best makeup for you to wear is mineral makeup.

Myth #5: Masturbation or sex causes acne.
This myth has been going around for years! The answer to this one is unknown. Research shows that there are only small, if any, hormonal changes after sex or arousal. One thing we do know though is people who have higher androgen levels tend to suffer with more severe acne than others with a lower androgen level. People with a higher androgen (the ones who are more likely to suffer from severe acne) tend to have a higher sex drive. This would explain why people who are more sexually active may sometimes experience more severe acne symptoms. Whether or not a persons acne would improve with less sexual activity is unknown.

If you suffer with acne or pimples, then you should try a tomato pimple treatment. Tomatoes make an excellent pimple treatment, and best of all it’s natural and doesn’t cost very much at all! Tomatoes are full of Vitamins A and C which is great for your overall health as well as improving your acne. Tomatoes contain Lycopene which, according to dermatologists, can prevent our skin from being damaged by the harmful UV (ultra violet) rays. Tomatoes have anti oxidant properties which is great for keeping your skin healthy and tightening up the pores.

You can get the benefits from tomatoes by eating them, and applying them to your skin. There are many different ways you can apply them to your skin. Here are some of them:

    1) You can apply tomato juice directly to your skin by putting the juice onto a cotton ball then apply over the face. Leave this on for around 15-20 minutes then rinse. If you do this twice a day you should see good results in only a few days.

    2) You could cut up a tomato and rub the side that is cut all over the area of your skin that is badly affected. Keep it on for 15-20 minutes then rinse. You can do this twice a day to see good results within a few days.

    3) You can apply the tomato as a face mask. Chop up a fresh tomato and put it in a blender with 1 tablespoon of oatmeal and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Blend the mixture until it is a smooth paste. Cleanse your face so that your skin is completely clean. Apply the the paste to your skin and leave it on for around 10 minutes. After the 10 minutes is up, rinse the paste from your skin with warm water. You can do this once or twice a week for best results.

Choose the tomato pimple treatment that suits you best and see if this treatment helps you. Tomatoes are excellent for your skin and they do not cost very much to buy from a local grocery store.

  • How to Hide Acne

Acne can be very embarrassing for the sufferer, and it can often effect their social life. I have known people who have suffered badly from acne and they would have rather stayed in than go out with their friends, even though what they really wanted to do was to go out with their friends. My opinion on this is to just live life to the full and don’t bother about what other people think. If you are really that self conscious about your acne, then you can easily learn how to hide acne and put it into practise.

Learning how to hide acne is pretty simple. There are a few different types of techniques you can try for stopping redness, swelling, and even shrink the size of your pimples.

    1) Concealer – This is a skin toned base makeup which will help to disguise your pimples. It will basically blend the pimple to the colour of your skin so the pimple is less obvious.

    2) Toothpaste – Many people have had great results by applying some toothpaste on their pimples before going to bed. If you do this the toothpaste can shrink the size of your pimples. Be careful though as doing this too much on the same area could irritate the skin.

    3) Ice – Hold ice (covered with a layer of cloth so you aren’t putting direct ice onto the skin) up to the pimple and hold for a couple of minutes. Do this a few times leaving at least a 30 second break in between each time you hold the ice to your skin. This can reduce the size of your pimple and take away the redness.

These, in my opinion, are three of the best ways to hide acne or even reduce acne! Learn how to hide acne with the three techniques above and you will find that they will help if you ever need a quick fix for pimples.

  • Vitamin Pimple Cure

If you are looking for a healthy and natural way to cure these pimples, then a vitamin pimple cure along with a healthy lifestyle may be the way to go! There are many vitamins that can help to prevent pimples and acne. These vitamins promote clear and strong skin.

The largest organ in the entire body is the skin. Toxins are removed from the body through your pores and glands, which is why you need to live a healthy lifestyle in order to get crystal clear skin and prevent acne. Vitamins play a role in keeping your skin healthy and clear. There isn’t a vitamin that will give you drastic results with improving your acne, but they will sure help to keep your skin healthy.

Here are some of the best vitamins and minerals to take in your vitamin pimple cure and healthy lifestyle routine:

Vitamin A – This vitamin helps to keep the skin healthy as well as keeping the mucus linings healthy. It also helps to strengthen your immune system and can improve your vision in dim light. Good sources of Vitamin A are oily fish, eggs, milk, yoghurt, and liver. Be careful with how much Vitamin A you are taking as taking too much can be dangerous. If you are thinking of upping your intake of this vitamin, please talk to your doctor first. If you are pregnant you should be extra careful that you do not take in too much of this vitamin, and avoid eating liver.

Vitamin B – All of the B vitamins help to keep your skin tone healthy and can also relieve any stress or anxiety. Some studies have came to a conclusion that Vitamin B6 can be beneficial in treating acne. The vitamin is essential for the functioning of your immune system and the production of your antibody’s. Vitamin B6 lets your body use and store the energy you get from the carbohydrates and protein in the food you eat. You can get this vitamin from bananas, green peppers, and many more.

Vitamin C – This vitamin can be found in a large variety of fruit and vegetables. Great sources of this vitamin includes broccoli, oranges, peppers, kiwi fruit, and much more! Vitamin C helps the body to absorb iron, which is important as iron is an essential mineral for the body. Vitamin C also helps to protect your cells and keep them healthy. It is important for the production of collagen (also known as the collective tissue in the bones and skin).

Zinc – You can find good sources of Zinc in bread, cereal products, cheese, milk, and more! Zinc helps to make new enzymes and cells, helps to speed up the process of healing wounds, and helps your body to process fat, carbohydrates, and protein in the food you eat. Zinc has been shown to boost your body’s immune system which is great for treating and preventing acne. Sebaceous glands sometimes work more when your immune system malfunctions, which can then increase the oil levels in your skin. This can then lead to acne. So Zinc is a great way for boosting your immune system and preventing acne.

Always make sure you do not take in two much of the above vitamins and minerals as the effects can be dangerous. We recommend you speak with your doctor before taking any supplements or eating a diet high in any of these vitamins and minerals. Good luck with your vitamin pimple cure, and don’t forget to live an overall healthy lifestyle to get the best results.

  • Prevent Pimples: Green Tea and Acne

    228/365: Tea Party for Two
Creative Commons License photo credit: by Janine

There are so many natural things that have been proven to prevent pimples and acne. Green tea is one of them. First of all I will tell you a little bit about green tea and acne, and how the tea is different from other types of tea. Green tea is not fermented like other teas, it is steamed not long after being plucked. This helps to prevent oxidation of the leaves so the leaves keep all of the active substances in tact.

Green tea has been proven to reduce and prevent acne. This is because it is anti-bacterial and reduces inflammation. It also decreases the activity of the hormones that can be responsible for killing the bacteria that can cause acne. Acne can be caused by hormones that are over active, so green tea is one thing that can help you to lower these hormones.

The antioxidants in green tea can be very beneficial to the prevention of acne. These same antioxidants can help to keep your entire body healthy.

What is great about green tea is that it is a natural therapy that you can drink each day to prevent pimples and acne, and can also benefit your overall health. Studies have shown that green tea can work just as good as some over the counter treatments for blemishes and acne.

So does green tea really prevent pimples and acne? I can honestly say that from my experience, green tea does help your skin to look clear and smooth. Why not try it out for yourself? You can soon start seeing all of the positive outcomes that come from drinking green tea on a regular basis.

Many people have asked me why they should use face masks as part of their pimple treatment regime. Whether you suffer from acne or just the odd pimple here and there, face masks are a great way to get your skin looking brighter, smoother, and more even. Even if you don’t suffer from pimples at all it is still very beneficial to use a face mask on a regular basis. Face masks help your skin to look more even and can help to clear up your skin if used properly.

Another question many people ask is which face mask should they use. Well the answer to that depends on your skin type. If you are not sure about which skin type you have, take the skin type test. Once you have determined your skin type, you will be able to choose a face mask suitable for your skin type. People who have oily skin should use a mud/clay mask as these help to absorb oil. People with either sensitive skin or dry skin should use a moisturising mask. And people with combination skin may want to use mud/clay but only on the T-zone area (forehead, nose, and chin). These of you with normal skin may find it most beneficial to use a moisturising mask. Peel off masks are also good for your skin as they can help to clear out your pores. I feel that any skin type can use these, but if your skin doesn’t react well to them or your skin dries out when using them you should consider using a different type of mask.

There are some homemade face masks that you can make yourself. We have recipes for three different face masks and they are for people with any skin type that suffers with acne. The severity of your acne determines which of these face mask you should choose for your skin. Have a look at our article ‘Homemade Pimple Treatment Facial Masks’, to choose which homemade mask is best for the severity of your acne.

Only apply the pimple treatment face masks onto clean dry skin. When it comes to removing the face mask, rinse with warm water then once it is all removed, splash your face with cold water to close the pores.

  • Treating Blackheads Prevent Pimples

    116/365

Blackheads appear on the face as small black spots. These small black spots are collections of bacteria, dead skin cells, and oil clogged up in the pores. The main areas of the face that people tend to have blackheads are the chin, nose, and forehead. Treating these blackheads will help to prevent pimples from forming and will give your skin tone a more even appearance.

Here are some tips for getting rid of blackheads and to prevent pimples:

    1) Exfoliate your face gently once or twice a week. If you purchase a cleanser than has gentle exfoliating beads, then you can use that on a daily basis morning and night if you wash your face with it gently.
    2) Give your face a steam pimple treatment once or twice a week to open and cleanse the pores.
    3) Never go to bed with your makeup on as it can cause more pimples and blackheads to form.
    4) Whenever you wash your face, steam your face, or after removing a face mask, always splash your face with cold water to close the pores.
    5) Get a facial from your local beautician once a month. Depending on the type of facial, the beautician can remove some of the blackheads from your skin.

Another obvious tip I can give you is to live a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy, exercising, drinking enough water, and getting enough sleep. These factors will definitely have a positive effect on your skin. By following all of the different tips mentioned in this article, you should start to see an improvement in the condition of your skin and you should also see less blackheads too! All of this will also help to prevent pimples.

  • Steam Pimple Treatment

    p1050927

Using steam as a pimple treatment can bring you fantastic results if done properly and regularly. Steaming your face can get rid of your pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. Steaming your face regularly will help your skin to stay smooth and glowing, as well as getting rid of these imperfections.

What does steaming your face actually do?

Steaming the face helps to clear out clogged pores. The heat from the steam will open your pores up allowing any debris to be loosened and cleared. The steam can also help to get rid of dead skin cells and it will also soften your skin and make it feel smooth.

So how do I give my face a proper steam treatment?

A facial sauna is the easiest thing to use as it is designed specifically for steaming your face, but if you do not own one of these you can use other things instead. If you do not know how to steam your face I am going to assume you do not own a facial sauna, which is why I am going to explain how to do it without one.

Step one: Firstly make sure your skin is clean and makeup free for best results. Tie your hair back so it doesn’t get in the way.

Step two: Take a pan and fill it with boiling water from the kettle, or simply boil the water on the stove. Don’t keep the water on the stove whilst steaming your face – put it on a table.

Step three: Stand with your face directly over the steam from the pan and drape a towel over your head to keep the steam from escaping. You must use the towel over the head if you want the best results possible. But remember to leave at least a small gap so you can still breathe! Hold your face over the steam for around 10–15 minutes. Make sure you don’t scald your skin.

Step four: Rinse your face immediately with lukewarm water.

How often can I do the steam pimple treatment?

We recommend that you do this once or twice a week for best results. There is no huge benefit of doing it more than twice a week, so once or twice each week is enough.

Is there anything I can do to make this treatment even more effective?

Lavender oil can be beneficial but only add a few drops to the water. There are other essential oils other than lavender that you can use. Another thing which I highly recommend is using a face mask right after steaming your face. The reason for this is that your pores are open from the high temperature of the steam and the face masks purpose is for clearing the pores and smoothing the skin.

  • Pimple Cure’s Top 10 Rules To Clear Skin

Creative Commons License photo credit: miyeong

When it comes to clear skin, there are certain rules you should follow to get the best results. The rules I have listed here are 10 rules that are very easy to follow. To help clear up your skin and get rid of these pimples, ensure you follow the 10 rules religiously!

    1. Eat healthy and drink enough water. Eating healthy helps to keep your whole body healthy, including your skin! Water helps to clean out your system and wash out any toxins from the body.

    2. Be consistent with your skin care regime. Do not miss washing your face either in the morning or night, and do not go to bed with your makeup on!

    3. Exfoliate your skin regularly, around once a week. This will clear the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. When you exfoliate make sure you do it gently as you don’t want to irritate your skin.

    4. Get enough sleep! This one is very important as your body heals itself best while you sleep, so ensure you get at least 7 or 8 hours sleep every night.

    5. Take regular exercise. Sweating will clear dirt and bacteria from your pores, just ensure you wash your face properly in the shower straight after exercising.

    6. All skin care products that you use must be suitable for the type of your skin. For example, if you have oily skin you should use facial products suitable for oily skin, and an oil free moisturiser.

    7. Allow three months to see if a new treatment works. This will give it time for your skin to get used to using it and to hopefully clear up your acne. If you feel it hasn’t worked after consistently using it for three months, then try another treatment.

    8. Use a face mask suitable for your skin type once or twice a week. This will keep your skin smooth and glowing. See pimple treatment face mask recipes.

    9. It is important that you wash your face twice a day (every morning and night). If you exercise then ensure you also wash your face straight after your workout.

    10. Try not to get stressed as pimples is a huge symptom of stress. Whenever you feel stressed, stop what you are doing and take in deep breaths until you are more calm. You could take up some yoga to help you de-stress. Yoga is a great stress reliever and it improves your mood.

Following the 10 tips above should help you to see big improvements in the condition of your skin. If you do not see any improvement after following these 10 rules religiously, then you should speak with your doctor if you acne causes you problems and makes you feel depressed. They may be able to give you advice and treatment for curing your pimples.
